- Is it possible to tour the facilities?

observation.Contact Us
- Does WCS enroll students with special needs?
Prospective students
with special needs are considered for admission based on the Administration’s assessment of our ability to meet those
needs. While we are greatly burdened to expand our capacity to accommodate the unique needs of every individual, our size
and facilities currently limit what we are able to do. Westgate has successfully helped many students faced with special
challenges, and we certainly encourage you to contact us to discuss whether or not we might be a help and blessing for
your special-needs child. Westgate Baptist Church is a handicap-friendly facility.
- Do I have to attend Westage Baptist Church?
No, but we’d certainly encourage you at least to visit our services so that you will better appreciate our biblical
standards and philosophy. If you aren’t already attending a Bible-believing Baptist church, then we hope you’ll consider
making Westgate your church home.
- What time does the school day start and end?
School begins for K4 through Grade 12 at
8:25 a.m. each day. K4 and Half-Day K5 students are released at 11:30 a.m., with dismissal for All-Day K5 and Grades 1-12
at 3:00 p.m.
- Does WCS provide before-school and after-school care?
Before-school childcare is
not available. School doors open 15 minutes before the start of school each day, and parents are asked to plan their
child(ren)’s arrival for that time. Parents are also asked to have their children picked up within 10 minutes of the
scheduled end of the school day. For those unable to do so, supervised after-school activities are available for students
enrolled in All-Day K5 through Grade 12, beginning with the conclusion of the regular school day and ending at 6:00 p.m. An
additional hourly charge is involved. After-school care is not available for K4 or Half-Day K5 students. Parents are encouraged
to utilize ride-sharing where convenient, but the school does not make such arrangements. A
Knowledge Beginnings childcare center (not
affiliated with WBC/WCS) is located just across the street.
- What security is in place on campus?
All
campus buildings are equipped with a state-of-the-art access control system and video monitoring system to ensure the
safety of our students. Dismissal times are carefully monitored by faculty to ensure students safely depart with their
parents or another party authorized by the parents. Additionally, traffic safety monitors are in position to maintain
traffic safety during drop-off and pick-up times.
- Is WCS accredited?
No. School accreditation is an administrative mechanism designed by the
government and proponents of public education for the purpose of attaining uniform education for all children. It was
established as a means of accountability and standardization for local school districts, which are sustained by public
monies. Accreditation seeks to ensure that schools meet what state educational agencies have determined to be minimum
academic, social, facility, and teacher qualification standards. Accreditation teams, therefore, investigate and approve
or disapprove the curriculum and programs of an institution according to criteria developed by secular educational
agencies, which may or may not recognize and respect Christian priorities and convictions. Westgate Christian School does
not seek, and has never sought, accreditation by any outside educational entity. We do, however, endeavor to provide the
strongest possible academic program, delivered by a qualified and capable Christian faculty. Students are tested annually
using nationally recognized standardized achievement tests in order to provide parents, the school, and prospective
colleges or universities with an objective means for assessing each student's academic proficiency.
- Are there athletic opportunities for the students?
Yes. In addition to physical
education classes, WCS offers intervarsity athletic programs for students in Grades 7-12 (basketball for young men and
volleyball for young ladies). The men’s and women’s seasons run concurrently, beginning in the mid-fall and ending in late
February. Other intramural opportunities are periodically available for WCS students through the Westgate Baptist Church
youth ministry.
- Are there fine arts opportunites for the students?
Yes. At WCS, our desire
is to help identify and develop the artistic talents and abilities of our students. Every elementary grade includes
instruction in Art and General Music. Students in Grades 3 and 4 are introduced to instrumental music by learning to play
the flutophone. Band classes are available beginning in Grade 5 and extending through the high school grades. Private piano,
brass, and violin lessons are available on site by special arrangement. Our students participate in the AACS National
Poetry and Essay Competition and in the NWACS Fine Arts Competition each year.
